Kiss the Rain

Beautiful Weddings in the Rain

As a Yorkshire based wedding photographer, there’s one question I get asked more than any other… “what do you do if it rains?” Naturally, the weather plays on the mind of any excited couple planning their big day.

Like most things in life, all you can do is hope for the best and plan for the worst. But if you ask me, I don’t think people need to worry too much about rain. Here’s why…

5 Reasons Not To Stress About Rain on Your Wedding Day

1. Rain makes your day more memorable

Your wedding day is going to be memorable anyway, but there’s something about rainy weddings that creates this unique atmosphere and genuine moments which are just a joy to photograph.

2. “Bad” Weather helps people to bond more easily

“We’re all in this together!” There’s definitely a sense of comradery that comes out in the rain. Everyone loves to talk and joke about the weather. Bad weather offers the perfect ice-breaker and can create a more sociable, close-knit environment.

3. A Rainy Day is a Fun Day!

Who doesn’t like splashing in puddles?! Okay maybe not in a wedding dress, but kids love rain and rain can bring out the kid in all of us. That’s what makes ‘Singing in the rain’ so magical, it can bring out the inner child in all of us!

4. Rain is Stylish

From custom wellies to designer umbrellas, reflections in puddles and/or views through rainy windows. Bad weather can also create really moody and atmospheric photos too. Give me a stormy sky over a blue one any day! :)

5. Rain isn’t as common as you think

I’ve photographed weddings in blue skies when the forecast was hail, thunder, fire and brimstone! The reality is, that it’s actually quite unusual to have full on, non-stop rain throughout the entire day. Most experienced wedding photographers are flexible and used to working in a variety of conditions. A good photographer will have a number of work arounds and alternatives to ensure you get memorable photos that will capture the unique character of you and your special day!
